Window Dressing XXXV: Rebecca Marino

Exhibition Dates: May 13th through May 20th 2024 (visible 24 hours/day)

Artist Reception: Sunday, May 19th, 1 to 3pm

Artist Statement:

Dogsbody is Dead is a body of multimedia work inspired by author Katherine Dunn (notable for her 1989 National Book Award finalist Geek Love) and her semi-autobiographical novel Attic– a graphic and often uncomfortable depiction of her experience as a young woman incarcerated in the Midwest during the 1960’s. Her writing uses a stream-of-consciousness style of prose to recall her life leading up to and throughout her incarceration as well as her fellow inmates. The result is a raw breakdown of stereotypes about women, sex, mental health, and social justice. All of the work created is in direct response to Dunn’s text, which is primarily focused on the emotional/ behavioral standards placed upon women and the often tragic results that ensue.
