Artist Reception: Friday, January 10, 6-8 pm
Artist Statement and Bio:
Banner of Love is a continuously scrolling marquee programmed to display an exhortation regarding grief and joy, referencing these as extremities of the cyclical human experience of love. Ms Cashmere includes a Soundscape field recording with an instrumental composition and sound bowl accompaniment to be played on loop outside the ICOSA Window. The goal of this composition and installation is to nourish the spirit, mind, and soul of those who partake by promoting deep breathing and contemplation through intuitive sound healing. While the visual portion will be on view for one week, the audio will run through February 16.
About the Artist
Ms Cashmere is a first-generation Filipino/Vietnamese/Chinese-American artist working with many forms of mixed media including public installation, collage, textile, music and collaboration through community archival work. She started the Cashmere Loveline project in 2021 - a grassroots Love Research database and anonymous hotline to receive reflections to the prompt, “what do you know about love?” This project continues to grow and be informed by each installation and response.
Cashmere’s work utilizes mixed media to reflect the nuance of mixed lived experiences and centers themes of the transcendent nature of love, rooted in the understanding that every individual can create healing by finding ways to heal themselves and extending vulnerability to empower others to navigate paths toward wholeness.
