Elaine I-Ling Shen
Elaine I-Ling Shen is a Texas-based artist whose work grapples with questions of inherent nature, impulse and mutability. With a philosophical approach, Shen primarily uses photography, sculpture and installations to explore those themes. Her current practice involves living elements or materials that change over time; unpredictability, a built-in part of Shen’s process, is welcome and essential fuel for her investigations.
Shen earned her BA from the University of Texas at Austin and her MFA from Yale University. She has taught at Fordham University and the University of Texas and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Fusebox, an inter-disciplinary arts organization that champions adventurous projects.
