Artist Erin Cunningham was born and raised in Kailua, Hawaii. In 2003, she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with an emphasis in small metals and sculpture. She went on to receive her MFA in Studio Art from the University of Texas in Austin. After spending a few years teaching at different universities around the country, Erin moved back to Austin in 2012 where she maintains an active studio practice while teaching at Texas State University in San Marcos.
Erin has shown her sculpture and jewelry work both nationally and internationally. Recent exhibitions include a solo show at Grindstone Gallery in San Antonio, TX and 2014 Art on the Green, an annual sculpture invitational at the Kemp Center for the Arts, Wichita Falls TX. She was then invited to curate the 2015 Art on the Green show, which featured all women sculptors. In Spring 2015 she was one of ten Texas artists invited to be in the 3rd Crosscurrent Texas-Japan show at the Metropolitan Art Museum is Tokyo, Japan.
Erin was the recipient of an artist residency at BAER Art Center in Hofsos, Iceland. She has been a Visiting Artist in Residence at the Sloss Furnaces’ Metal Arts Program in Birmingham, Alabama.
