Chambers of Longing
New work by Andrea De Leon and Terra Goolsby
Friday, March 30th through Saturday, April 21st
ICOSA Collective presents Chambers of Longing, an exhibition of new sculptural works by artists Andrea de Leon and Terra Goolsby. Utilizing a variety of media including porcelain, glass and metal, this collection examines the phenomena of fetishism and object relations. By transforming negative space and creating relationships between the interior and exterior, the work fluctuates between opposing lines of bondage and protection. Each of these intimate sculptures catalyze varying emotional responses that tap into the depths of psychological compulsion.
Andrea de Leon is a multidisciplinary artist that uses elements of light, distortion, equilibrium, and psychology in order to explore and expose a “scientific neurosis.” She obtained her BFA in Studio Arts from the University of Texas and has received awards to attend residencies in glass at Ox-Bow School of Art and Penland School of Crafts. She has worked and shown internationally and currently teaches metalsmithing at Creative Side Jewelry Academy. Andrea is an active member ICOSA Collective and continues to evolve her sculptural practice in Austin, Texas.
Terra Goolsby is a multi-media artist that draws upon mythologies, mysticism, science fiction, religious lore, and psychology. Her work connects old narratives and new cultural assessments of female sexuality while investigating the integration of creation and destruction, collectivity and singularity, as well as strength and vulnerability. With a focus on the unbridled and primordial nature of specific characters in the narratives that she draws upon, her work harbors an aesthetic that is both dangerous and sensual. She holds an MFA in Sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design. She has been an artist in residence at West Dean College of Sussex University in Chichester, England, Vermont Studio Center, and I-Park Foundation in New Hampshire. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States and Europe.
